I created this blog back in 2007 mainly as a backup for my writing, but soon it turned out to become more than that. Since then I’ve been posting book reviews, some (hopefully helpful) posts on publishing, agents and queries and lots and lots of stuff on writing in general.
“In the Shadows” (referring to the ‘Light’ trilogy that I’m currently writing) has become my main blog and the place I’m talking about my experiences as a writer and things I’m learning as I go along. As you will see this is also a place for the one or other lengthy rant, but hey that’s what blogs are for, aren’t they?
About myself, I’m a 22 year old fantasy writer and Shadows, book 1 of the Light trilogy is my first novel. I’m currently working on editing and rewriting it as well as outlining book 2, Clairvoyance which I’m planning to begin in November 2008, just in time for this year’s Nanowrimo.
Even though English is not my native language (I’ve been living in Germany until just about a year ago), I’ve always enjoyed learning other languages and done a lot with English to the point when it doesn’t make a difference for me anymore whether I’m reading, writing or talking one or the other language. I’m writing in English and if you’re asking me why I’d probably say because it’s ‘easier’ for me in a way. I’ve been reading books in English since 8th grade and somehow the words are just coming more easily this way. It’s in no way a rational explanation and I do intend to translate my books into German at some point, but for now English is the lingua franca 😉
Last year I immigrated to the United States where I married my wonderful hubby Stephen (that’s pronounced “Stephan” btw so Steffi&Stephan evoke puns and comments wherever we introduce ourselves :p). So of course you’ll find that occasionally I love to rant about the differences in country and culture here in contrast to where I grew up (it’s funny at times, really).
In August 2008 I’ll start university again (since all my paperwork is done – yay!) and will study at Weber State University to get my BA in secondary education, teaching German and English at High School. Beyond that I fancy the idea of doing some freelance translating (I speak German, English, Latin (yeah you can’t actually speak that, but give me a break :p), Spanish, French, Italian and a little Anchient Greek (did I mention I love dead languages? :p )
General interests are in reading, reading and reading (mostly fantasy), occasional role-playing on the White Tower site, writing my own books (currently working on my first big solo project, the Light triology), my husband (yes, Stephen you’re a hobby :p) and everything creative (I’m a crafty person). On top of that I’m owned by Nazca, the cute, ferocious kitten who definitely lives up to her name (whoever doesn’t get the refernce should read The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch 😉
Et voila another lengthy rant… Hopefully you don’t overly mind those and will enjoy the blog 😀
