Quick Update

Still too busy to think straight. Three more weeks till school’s over (3 papers to write, 6 tests to take, 3 oral reports to give). Blargh. At least I’m looking forward to having some quality character time during summer break and to maybe, maybe even finish the second draft of Light.

In other news, the tattoo is still awesome, healing really well and itching like fuck (you were totally right about that one.) On the plus side, at least my VS bras are awesomely versatile, so I can actually wear something but a sports bra (which I hate with a passion) that keeps everything where it’s supposed to be :p

Anyway, weird side rant aside, life’s hectic, but awesome. Now to convince the boss to replace my monitor with something that I can actually work on without the certainty of inevitably going blind and insane by beeping, feeping, flimmer tube screen of doom. Let’s hear it for flat screens, folks.

P.S.: If someone has cool images of The Chariot (speaking of the Tarot card “The Chariot), please send them my way since I’ve had a sudden spark of inspiration πŸ˜‰

Now that didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would…

I know that I already told some of you about this, but this year’s birthday present to myself has been a tattoo. My very first one and even though I’ve always wanted one, until recently, I just didn’t know what exactly I wanted to get. As so often in the life of yours truly ideas come random, and they come whacky.

This one came to me in a dream in which one of my MCs suddenly showed up sporting a raven in flight holding a broken pocket watch in its claws. Now what made me get it in the end wasn’t only that it stands for the two patron deities of my MCs in Light as well as for things like night, soaring hights and chaos in general, but also the fact that it applies to me as a person, though the explanation here is a little more personal so if you’re interested in hearing my personal rant about it, feel free to nudge me. Anyway, this is something that relates both to me as a person and as a writer and I just love what Jason from SLC Ink did with my rather simple 10-minute sketch:

Here’s the stencil and me getting more and more nervous as the little voice that says “Oh my God, I’m really doing this!” and “This is going to hurt like Fuck!” gets louder.

102_0006Things are getting started and it’s really not as bad as I thought it would be. Seriously, my “always expect the worst to happen” mentality sometimes really pays off πŸ˜›

102_0007By the time the outline was done, I really looked sore, but it still wasn’t so bad and it took less time than I imagined it to take. One thing that I was kind of worried about was the fact that I’m usually on blood thinners, but had taken a few days off the meds to make sure it wouldn’t bleed too much when I got the tattoo and evidently it worked just fine.

102_0010And we get color! Well, it’s a black & gray tattoo, but still πŸ™‚

102_0011Almost done except for the highlights. Which for some reason hurt more than anything else, but that might have been due to the entire tattoo taking 3 hours and me getting a massive headache in the last hour.

102_0012Aaaand done. Pretty red and sore and the highlights won’t come out until it’s fully healed in about 3-4 weeks, but I’mΒ  really, really happy with it. This definitely was one of the more interesting birthdays. Gotta love those gifts that you give to yourself and having awesome friends who tag along. Even though “Oh man, this going to hurt so bad” won’t ever make it into the most supporting lines ever.

Anyway, thanks to Jen and Carly for tagging along and most of all thanks to Jason for doing an awesome job πŸ™‚

EDIT: I’ll have Jen or someone take a new picture of how it looks now all healed and not as dark anymore. It has a lot of highlights now and looks all pretty. I love it πŸ˜€

I am indeed still alive.

And could probably write a whole story about The Life Of Me right now. Seriously, we have everything from divorce, to stressed and starving student who’s doing the multiple job thing to make ends meet to ex-husbands who just don’t get it and creep the bejesuses (is there a plural to this?) out of me by suddenly standing in (yes, IN) my living room at night. Seriously, let’s not even go there. I’m tired enough of it all as it is.

Sadly enough abovementioned things have kept me pretty busy and have led to a severe lack of writing in favor of stress and lethargy. This weekend is the first time since the beginning of this month that I’ve actually sat down and fiddled with Light for a while. I haven’t gotten a whole lot done, but I’m mentally getting back into the swing of things. Which sometimes really is the most important thing about that whole First Novel Experience Thing.

So of course I horribly failed NaNoWriMo 2008 at somewhat under 5,000 words, but hey, at least I did write almost 5k this month and that’s gotta count for something, right? Anyway, it’s time for yours truly to get her respective head out of her respective ass and get her shit back together writing-wise.

Brumm! Brumm!

I got my car today (finally) and am way excited since it’s my very first car that I actually own all by myself. It’s a ’97 Pontiac Sunfire and it’s awesome πŸ˜€

More Gratuitous Kitty Posting

So even though he’s a little bigger than Nazca in size, I don’t really think Loki is any older than six, maybe eight months. He’s definitely still a ‘baby’ kitty and absolutely cute and adorable now that he seems to truly found a home here (pst, Nazca’s warming up to him and his cute playfulness too, she’s just not admitting it…yet πŸ˜‰ )

Loki invading Nazca’s territory – the bed. Uh-oh kitty.

What’s this? Yes, the kitty loves to play around in and around my books – talk about distraction from work πŸ˜‰

Purrrrrr! Somebody definitely enjoys being loved on…even though he just threw that damn bamboo off the bookshelf for the second time tonight…what is that about long bamboo stick thingies in vases making it such a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally interesting kitty toy?

Welcome hurricane Loki. Yup, the name fits…

Cat, I’m a Kitty Cat…

Everyone, welcome the newest addition to our little pride of cats: Loki πŸ˜€

Loki is a ‘Findelkind’ that Jen’s roommate found meowing outside of their dorm, but unfortunately their apartment manager was less than happy to find our adorable little feline residing in their ‘pet-free’ student domicile so the poor kitty had to leave. Since there was nobody else around (and honestly, because he’s just too damn cute!) who could take him, Loki (who used to go by the trivial name ‘Toby’ and was thus re-christened) now found a new home in our little basement apartment.

Even though Nazca and Rini currently aren’t too happy about ‘that guy’ moving in, I’m sure they’ll get over it in a few days and will adopt the little one as their new playmate (I think Nazca will be happy to have someone who loves to play at least as much as she does, she just doesn’t know it yet πŸ˜‰ ).

Right now, our apartment resembles a little war zone, with Rini and Nazca barricading themselves in the bedroom, while little Loki has found refuge under the couch in the living room, though he also likes to explore, almost as much as he likes to play and can be coaxed out of his hiding spot by jingly mice or by the random urge to follow me wherever I go. Needless to say that I’ve already fallen in love with the adorable, little charmer πŸ™‚

Right now he’s munching cat food and eying Nazca from a safe distance. Boy knows what’s good for him, but she’ll warm up πŸ˜‰ The more, the merrier (and yes, he’s ‘my’ cat, not the hubby’s :p )

An Open Letter to….well Me.

Dear Me,

Honestly, I don’t think I’m the only one who’s been wondering what in the Seven Hells has been wrong with you lately. No writing. No blogging. No mental consistency whatsoever (really, I’m not exaggerating here and you dam well know it).

Yes, the throes of university and work life have been keeping you busy and yes, it’s really sort of ‘suboptimal’ to try and concentrate on anything if your relationship/marriage starts to accelerate into a head-on train wreck and you come to the conclusion that yes, you did fuck up there pretty badly and yes, it’s time to make some changes.

But seriously. Get your shit together, will you?

Yes, I’m getting tired of all the whining and ranting that ultimately leads to nothing and serves as an excellent way of distraction and yes, procrastination, just because it’s too hard to work on not losing your shit whenever anything happens. I understand that you want and need a break from all this really badly, but what about all the other things you wanted to get done this year like….finishing that second draft of that novel that’s been in your head long enough? Now that you have decided to cheat the heck out of Nanowrimo this year and use it to get a good chunk of work on this-still nameless-book of this-equally nameless apart from a working-title-trilogy done, get on it already.

So quit all that whining andΒ  slacking off and get on your respective ass to get things moving again. Call it distraction, call it escapism or jut call it finally-getting-your-shit-together. But man, I’m really tired of this. Just write already, damn you.
